Providing Workshops for Disabled
Torquay, Torbay Devon.
We provide workshops for disabled people around devon and are looking into providing special training workshops for Care workers of local Residential, nursing and care homes.
Last year we provided sessions in :-
- Website Design - Basics
- Graphic Design - Basics
- Clock making
- Craft Design
- Music Session
Website Design was a 14 week course providing 2 hours per week.
Due to the restraints with the abilities of some of the disabled on the course I decided to provide a very basic course Using Tables to create the site through a programme called Dreamweaver.
Some of the things we delved into were :-
- Design
- SEO (Search Engine Optimisation)
- Dynamics
- Coding using HTML (Hypertext Markup Language)
- CSS (Cascading Style Sheets)
- Accessibility
At the end of the course, the students had produced a website using both coded html and the dreamweaver package.
Graphic Design was a 14 week course providing 2 hours per week.
We used fireworks to produce our website in which we looked at many different aspects of designing.
By the end of the course the students had produced a design that could be used for a website.
Clock Making was a 14 week course providing 2 hours per week.
We looked at different types of designs for clocks and the students decided on thier own design concept.
We discussed different materials and put together some ideas, we then went on to creat the clocks. The students took an active role in the clock making, the more able worked with stencils when painting, where as the less able provided ideas and choice on colours and materials used.
At the end of the course the students all had a finished clock to go home with.
Craft Design & Music Session was a one off session and was 2 hours for each session.
In the Craft Design we produced some outstanding Christmas Crackers and in the Music Session we had a quiz on music and musical instruments.
This year we will be providing Sessions in :-
- Intranet Design - Basics
- Shore life - Building an indoor rockpool
